TREESPEAK begins with hikes.
There, in the woods or desert, trees stand as individuals, each
with their
own expression specific to the way their surface has transformed with age, growth, erosion,
insects, or
fire.
These conditions express unique graphic features. The day we walk, the light at that moment, or
state of
mind
- the longer the hike the more connected to the trees - the trees seem to speak out! The image
starts with
my
photograph of the tree. The conversation continues when I introduce color and other
graphic modifications. Each tree whispers a different expression. I give vision to the whisper
so that their
communication may be seen. You may hear their conversations a little differently. These 50
conversations
represent a limited discourse in the otherwise vast population of the forests in the hopes that
all trees
will
have a voice.
